A star is a Physical Agent in the extraterrestrial universe in which thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen takes place. The study of stars is the subject matter of stellar physics, part of astrophysics.
A star may have stellar satellites (or even other stars) in orbit around it, thus constituting a star system. Earth is a stellar satellite of the star Sol, our sun, both part of Sol's star system, the Solar System.
